Lugano – Overview:
The town of Lugano is to be found in the Canton of Ticino in the southern Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. According to the towns administration, the population is somewhere in the region of 52 thousand and the Swiss Association of Market Technicians (SAMT) have stated that Lugano is the third financial market in Switzerland. The local government of Lugano have indicated that the cities leading economic sectors are, finance, tourism (conference and leisure) and trade, guaranteeing around 27 thousand jobs.

The ground transport to and from Lugano is quite comprehensive, the city is well connected to the rest of Switzerland and beyond by rail with a number of lines such as the high speed Cisalpino and the tourist orientated William Tell Express. By road Lugano is easily accessed with the A2 motorway, which is also part of international E-road network, in this case the E35 running over 1600 kilometres between Amsterdam and Rome. Although Lugano has it’s own airport, there are a limited number of destinations available, however Milan’s airports are around 60 to 90 minutes away providing access to a greater number of worldwide locations. Once in the city buses and taxis are available, but due to the size of Lugano walking can be just a quick.

The town has for a long time been a popular tourist location with breathtaking views of Lake Lugano and the Alps. At first glance Lugano can appear to be a sleepy lakeside town but looks can bee deceiving. Casino Lugano, which is now over a century old, has in recent times undergone renewal and modernisation, the casino aims to be among the top four in Europe according to Lugano Tourism. For the more energetic the surrounding terrain gives the challenges that mountain bikes were designed for and the lake is perfect for a wide range of water sports.
